Michael Caruso
Michael Caruso 819 1024 omie

Michael Caruso is a graduate of The University of Michigan and the Vice President of Operations for Om of Medicine and Mission Dispensaries. Michael entered the cannabis industry at the ground floor in Michigan when he helped Depot Town Dispensary open in Ypsilanti back in 2011. After Depot Town, Michael worked at Green Planet in Ann Arbor before moving to San Francisco, CA in 2013. Michael was recruited by SPARC (the San Francisco Patient and Resource Center) to help with the operations. After managing SPARC for nearly 4 years (and opening a second location in the Haight neighborhood), he moved on to work for The Apothecarium. Michael oversaw the buildout of The Apothecarium’s second location in the Marina district of San Francisco. He was the General Manager of that facility for almost two years before deciding to move to Chicago, IL with his wife, Kaili, to be closer to his family (which reside in Kalamazoo, MI). After settling in Chicago, Michael found a position with Mission Dispensaries. While building the third dispensary in the state of Arkansas (Arkansas Natural Products), he was tasked with supporting operations at Om of Medicine. Michael has solidified his life in the Cannabis Industry. He loves the plant, and the people. In his free time, Michael loves to cycle, in 2015 and 2016 he participated as a rider in the AIDS LifeCycle fundraiser, riding from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money for the SF AIDS Foundation and the LA LGBT Center. He also loves to DJ and plays House and Techno music!

Duane
Duane 1024 1024 omie

Duane is from the Ann Arbor area and graduated from Pioneer High School class of 2013. He grew up playing basketball, dancing, and writing poetry. He really found the value of cannabis when he was a senior in high school as he was in season, doing theatre, and performing with his dance group on the weekends. After multiple knee dislocations, a partial MCL tear, three concussions, and a history of migraine and sleep problems, THC and CBD were really the only things that kept him together emotionally and spiritually during that time. The combination gave him great pain relief, a calm and focused mental state, and allowed him to embrace his creative side more when he couldn’t be as physically active as he wanted to be.

Now, cannabis is something his family and friends actively use for a number of different reasons, but the root of it all is having a better quality of life and bringing people together around something truly beneficial.

Duane is currently making strides as a high school basketball coach and trainer, looking to infuse the healing powers of THC/CBD, and all its variants, into the everyday recovery and life of an athlete

Mae
Mae 1024 1024 kosiorek

Mae is an Ann Arbor townie. She grew up understanding that plants are medicine and how important it is to be conscious of and care for others. She built her skills in customer service and knew she wanted to work in a more mindful and community oriented field. Mae herself uses cannabis and sees the way it betters her and others’ quality of life. In her free time, she enjoys cartoons, cooking and chilling. After finding Om as a patient, she’s excited to join the team in working towards our goals!

Kyle
Kyle 1024 1024 kosiorek

Hello, my name is Kyle Tanner. I grew up in rural Michigan surrounded by bean fields, connected by dirt roads. I knew, even when I was young, that I destined to move away from my rural upbringing. I was sick on and off during most of my youth, which led me to believe that there was something wrong with me, along with very little growth, compared to my peers. At the age of 16, I was finally diagnosed with what was responsible for my compromised immune system and lack of growth, Fanconi Anemia. Fanconi Anemia, a rare genetic disorder, would come to attach itself to my identity and lead me to strive to live a more purposeful life.

After High school, I jumped around colleges and finally landed at Central Michigan university to pursue my passion in Meteorology. I quickly learned that math was not my strong suit and switched my major to Broadcasting and Cinematic arts, my second-choice for a major, but a field that allowed me to express myself creatively. I continued to live the life of an average college student, until my senior year, when the need for a bone marrow transplant became evident. I underwent the procedure and long-road to recovery on February 7th, 2017, the day of my transplant. Unfortunately, the first transplant was not enough, and I needed a 2nd transplant of February 17th, 2017. The road to recovery was not easy, and due to my compromised immune system I was and still to this day, have to take many prescription drugs to compensate for this.

Cannabis has been a part of my life since I was 18 years old and my relationship with the plant has evolved over time. Originally, I used cannabis to cope with the stress of just purely existing; After my bone marrow transplant, my relationship with the plant would expand and its use for chronic pain, due to avascular necrosis and neuropathy in my hands and feet would be forged as an alternative treatment option as opposed to opioids. Cannabis, on top of helping to control my pain, has also served as a great teacher in my life, allowing me to view my life from an alternative angle.

Aside from engaging in discussion about cannabis; I enjoy taking photos, listening to music, mountain biking and observing the weather.

Ave
Ave 1024 1024 kosiorek

Ave moved to Ann Arbor a few years ago to attend Eastern Michigan University and fell in love with the city and people. Om of Medicine was one of the first places she walked into. The immediate positive reception, care, and overall kindness made me realize that this is somewhere built for growth, and welcoming atmosphere like no other. Om’s respect for art, self expression and good nature is so prominent, she knew it was a place where everyone could be themselves. Away from Om she loves to paint, film and edit, and spends every moment possible with her puppy Sammy.

Jim
Jim 1024 1024 omie

James Klotz attended the University of Michigan in the late ’90’s.  He was immediately impressed with the forward thinking and open-minded atmosphere of Ann Arbor.   However, it was when he began work with Walgreens as a summer job, that he discovered his true passion. Helping people feel better.  Professionally speaking, customers have always been the main focus for James, getting to know what they need, when they need it, and how to overcome any barriers to achieving that.  Personally speaking, he has seen the benefits that Cannabis has to his other passion; his family and friends. It was natural, that after 21 years in the Retail Pharmacy industry, he turned his focus to somewhere he could pursue both of his passions, The Om of Medicine.
When he’s not helping his team and customers, you can find him bowling, golfing, or helping his son make the best Pinewood Derby car. He also loves watching movies with his wife and daughter, the Little Mermaid is a fan favorite!
